We inherited this site from a seasoned Zen Cart pro who is retiring from the business. This client wanted to re-design and upgrade his Zen Cart site and create a WordPress blog.
The old site was frankly quite ugly, difficult to navigate, and did not lend to a good user experience because it lacked any type of structured site navigation.
The other feature in need of a makeover from the old site was the custom inventory management system. The inventory system this client was using was built specifically for warehouse management of laserdiscs. The system managed not only the quantity in stock, but the warehouse location of products. Because the old inventory system was an external application which connected to Zen Cart, the interface and the product creation product management processes were clunky and inefficient. The system also did not provide the shop owner a means to update the underlying data. Finally the old system was not scalable so that the shopowner would be unable to expand product offerings from laserdiscs into other media formats without additional customizations.
In re-constructing the site, the inventory system was re-built from the ground up and integrated with the Zen Cart back-end administration to streamline the product inventory management and product creation process. The new product inventory system provides more administrative functionality and includes features so that the shop owner can easily expand his product line in the future to include other media formats in addition to laserdiscs. The client worked with the graphic designers at So Vivid Graphics to give his site graphics and banners some much needed POP! The site was given a complete facelift to lighten and brighten the overall site look and feel and to include more navigation and usability features. The client’s logo was updated as well to a more sophisticated modern design. Much of the textual content, and product images from the previous site were retained/reused wherever feasible. The improved site features a unified structured site navigation, a fresh look, and a blog with a design to match the shop’s look and feel.

An examination of the previous designers work revealed that the site
lacked a solid unified look (the store did not look “exactly” like the
static pages, and the gallery was unstyled) The site also lacked any
type of structured site navigation (static pages were not linked to
store and vice versa, etc).
In re-constructing the site, a better e-commerce solution was
selected to replace the previous designer’s choice of e-commerce
solutions. Much of the textual content, graphics and basic color scheme
of the previous site were also retained/reused. The improved site
features a unified structured site navigation, a fresh look, and an
upgraded site backend.

solution and a fully functional database driven gallery solution. The
site also includes dynamic backend administration tools for easy
management of site content, products, customers, images and orders.
